Housed in an old hockshop, guests dressed in costumes dance to hip hop, independent rock and new wave. You will also find more casual dressed guests. The place definitely has an artsy flair.

Recently opened, Nocturnal (305-576-6996, www.nocturnalmiami.com ) is the “nightlife destination.” From the main dance floor to the glass lounge to the rooftop terrace and all the areas in between, you'll feel like a VIP, that is the owner's motto. Performance artists and live music provide additional entertainment.

Looking for something a little unusual?  Euphoria Project (954-822-2043, www.euphoriaproject.org ) throws 3-5 parties a month at nightclubs all over Miami and Fort Lauderdale, catering to a very wide range of dance music styles.  With a spirit of total inclusivity (anyone is welcome, never any dress codes), their parties cater to younger crowds, 20s and 30s and looking for fun.

In Coconut Grove, Oxygen Lounge and Sushi Bar (305-476-0202, www.oxygenlounge.biz ), with its minimalist and contemporary decoration, vibrates with Latin, international, hip hop, pop rock and funk and soul music. It is a popular spot for fashion shows. 

If you art fan, or want to take a (short) break from intense partying, check the art walks. In the different Miami neighborhoods, the art galleries open their doors after seven in the evening, one night per month (each neighborhood has a different day and week) so that locales and visitors become acquainted with the latest expressions of painting, sculpture, installation art and their creators.
