Description: My husband and I have been dying to visit Daytona Beach. We just got married last year, so we didn't have a lot of money to spend on a hotel. We booked this hotel through expedia after reading the reviews. I was impressed at how friendly the staff was. The only problem that we had was that we booked an "ocean view" king room, which was actually a side view. The "oceon front" double rooms have the best (straight) view of the ocean.

Cleanliness: The room was clean and didn't smell. I would suggest some updates in the bathroom, but it was clean. The room had a fridge, microwave, couch and tv. It was nice.

Location: It was in a great location on N. Atlantic Ave and everything was only a short drive. The airport (DAB) and Daytona Speedway were across the bridge, maybe a 10 minute drive. Ponce Lighthouse was a longer drive south on Atlantic, but we enjoyed the scenery. There was also a waterpark and a mall (where Bubba Gump Shrimp was located) about 3 miles from the hotel.

PS. I would definitely suggest eating at Bubba Gump's. GREAT, no EXCELLENT food!

We were told that they accept tax exempt forms and we faxed it 3 weeks prior to going to the hotel. No one and I stress, no one contacted us and informed us that they do not accept the form we had. The whole time we were there, no one told us they do not accept our form. One of the rooms had a whole in the wall, that we were charged for and torn sheets that no one could tell us which room it was in. We were charged after we left for taxes and for the whole in the wall that was already there. The manager would not contact the IRS about the form being legit. The hotel itself was clean, the pools were clean and the beach was nice. No crowds at all. But I would not recommend this hotel to churches if you are planning on using your tax exempt forms. Anyone else who stay in room 506 the whole was already in the wall by the air conditioner, so if they try and charge your for it, you seen it first on this review. They had it covered by plaster, NO drywall and if you lean up agaist it , which is what happened, it will reopen the whole. Watch your account. This is how we knew they charged us for all of this. Once again, watch your account when you leave and go home.

After looking at rates on the property's site, I called the hotel directly. I was asked if I had already been quoted a rate , I mentioned the rate on the site and was told that they could match that rate. The next morning we decided to check the rate and stay another night. I called down to the front desk and was asked the rate I paid for the past night. Clerk said that she could match that rate. I then had someone else call in and ask for the rate for that night and he was quoted a rate $40 less than I was!! Other than that we did like this hotel and would stay again. Our view from the oceanfront balcony was beautiful!

My husband and I were trying to plan a last minute get-away for Memorial Day weekend. I cant tell you how many hotels/motels we looked at, and read reviews on, but we were glad to finally find this place! The staff were all very friendly. Check in isnt until 4pm, but we arrived about 11:15am and the girl at the desk was able to get us into a room right then! We stayed in a king oceanview room.....the bed was comfy & we didnt need to worry about it being clean! What a relief!!! The room was good sized, and our view of the ocean was good. The balcony couldve been a little larger would be my only "gripe". We were lucky enough to have a room on the end, with a trash chute on the other side. That means no neighbors!! :) Our overall view on this place is great! I would recommend it to people with familes or people who dont mind children. We would go back!!!

i stayed again this past week in may 2008 at the tropical winds oceanfront hotel daytona beach. i looked at another before deciding to go back. once i checked out others i felt the tropical winds is where i wanted to be again. this was my 2nd stay there and each time is better then the last. this time i took an oceanfront efficiency. best move i made. the front desk gal was so nice and cheerful upon checking in. i was hrs early due to the flight in . she gave me a room right away. the room was awesome. it was like a dream come true. facing the ocean. the room was very clean. the housekeeping staff were wonderful. rooms done early . they wont wake you to clean the room and change the towels.they wait till you are gone out. the cafe downstairs is a wonderful place to have breakfast & lunch. they are so reasonable. i thought it to be cheaper then go to a restaurant to eat. the pool area is real clean. the maint. dept does a thorough job keeping it clean.there is internet computer in the lobby for the guests. they just ask you to limit to 15 mins if someone is waiting or comes down to use the computer. that is a reasonable request. i have now made tropical winds my vacation home. the hotel may not be the newest but it sure is a great place . to me the newer hotels, taller ones and ones with big names like the hilton are more costly. you are paying for the names. again thankyou expedia for listing tropical winds on your site. i found them thru your hotels listing 2 yrs ago and i am glad i chose this hotel
