“Wonderful Experience at Sunset Beach”

Our first trip to Cabo was great and the resort could not have been more perfect for the two of us. We stayed at the resort 7/24-7/30 and our room was a junior suite (hotel room not timeshare). We stayed in building #31 and after the second day we figured out that we could walk just as easily to the main building and the pool that was directly in front of our villa instead of using the carts each time. Several evenings we used the shuttle into town for dinner and then got a cab back to the resort (cost 10.00) The service at the pools and front desk were great and housekeeping made sure that we had everything we needed. The resort is beautiful, rooms are clean and the views are amazing. The only negative experience we had was at the Bistro in the main building. Had been told to dine at the Bistro for a casual and inexpensive meal. TERRIBLE SERVICE! The staff was very friendly but everyone in the restaurant was having to get up from their tables to get assistance. A group of 8 that dined beside us did not leave a gratuity and told the waiter that he did not deserve it. They took my fiance's ice tea glass to refill it before our dinner arrived and he never got another glass. I would recommend eating elsewhere.

Both Pool service and room service were great and the food was good. We ate lunch most days by the pool and enjoyed happy hour from 3-5 each day.

Restaurants in town we dined at: Pancho's, The Trailer Park, El Patio and Zappatos's (next to Pepe's Tacos). We went to City Club and purchased water for our stay and rum to add to our drinks at the pool since they are a bit weak.

I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. It was our first trip to Cabo and we are planning to come again next year for our wedding. My boyfriend proposed during our stay on the beach one evening before sunset. Great memories for the two us!

Based on all the positive comments we expected a lot from this resort. It is true that the location is great, and most of the staff are wonderful, but this is an overcrowded timeshare selling machine. Are all these positive comments biased by potential timeshare sellers hoping to keep the value up? It is suspicious that the obvious deficiencies of the sunset beach resort have been left off of so many prior reviews. Beware!

The property is located in an excellent part of cabo if you want to avoid the downtown crowd of heavy party and drinking. Unfortunately, the resort seems so intent on building more units to sell that they have created a dense city of their own. Each building is stacked up the hill on top of each other. To get from site to site it is almost impossible to walk, thus making the guests dependent on a vast shuttle system of golf carts. It severely detracts from the experience to sit packed at the poolside only to wait 15 min in line to get shuttled to your room. While you wait the resort makes it very easy to buy $4.00 sodas or $7.50 watered-down drinks.

To give credit to the positives, it is true this is a very clean and exceptionally well maintained resort, especially by most mexico standards. The food is generally good but not great. Expect an average dinner for 4 to cost at least $200. The staff are wonderfully trained, often giving the impression that they spent some time at Disneyland.

If you are travelling with a big group and have many kids they will surely enjoy a short stay here, but be aware that you can not swim at the beach. A shuttle bus that runs to their sister resort helps get closer to swimming beaches and downtown, but this sister resort "the rose" still is a bit far for a comfortable walk to town. It cost us an additional $6.00 taxi to get to the central marina and shopping areas.

Overall my teenage kids and family had a lot of fun, but this is no bargin and much better can be found for upscale hotels or resorts in cabo. Those thousands of folks who have purchased timeshares will surely keep coming and probably enjoy their stay. If you don't want to get suckered into a timeshare, and are looking for a hotel or resort experience look elsewhere. We would never return.

Me and my husband just returned from a 6-night stay at PBSB. This was our first trip to Cabo and it by far exceeded our expectations!

The resort itself is really beautiful! It's away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Cabo and on our ride in, at first we weren't quite sure if we would like being so far out of town, but it turned out to be quite enjoyable!

Upon entering the resort, you immediately notice the beautiful surroundings, landscaping, beach area, ocean views and the awesome architecture and design of the entire resort. It's all very new and they're still building more! The landscaping was gorgeous...I loved all the colorful flowers, bushes and the bird cages throughout. It's built into a mountain, so the walkways and stairs can be pretty steep, but the golf carts will take you anywhere you need to go, in case you're not up for the exercise! :)

Our favorite place to hang out was at the main pool down by the beach. The AquaBar served delicious food and the yummiest drinks! We pretty much lived on fish & shrimp tacos, chips & salsa and guacamole, beer, and margaritas. There's a daily Happy Hour when you get 2 drinks for the price of 1! Well worth it, since the drinks can be pretty expensive...I think 1 strawberry margarita ran $75 Pesos (which is about $7.50 USD). They also have a really nice swim up bar area around the AquaBar and there are tables in the water....the pools are all heated and it was soooooo enjoyable to swim in them! You also get nice beach towels to use while there. The area was always nice and clean, and the service was great! Everybody was so polite and fun to be around!

Our other favorite place was the beach! Even though you can't swim in the water (but just watch the shore breaking waves, and you'll see why!), it was awesome to walk along the beach, grab a lounge chair and fall asleep under a nice canopy. We would walk on the beach almost daily and really enjoyed the scenery. It's nice too, because it's a private beach, so no vendors trying to sell you things (unlike at the Pueblo Bonito Rose....we took the shuttle down there couple of times and immediately upon entering the beach area, you get bombarded with vendors.....sometimes I liked looking at their goods, but after all day of getting hounded, it can get a little annoying....smile and say "No Gracias!" :)

We also REALLY enjoyed the Spa at Sunset Beach! It was beautiful! The prices are in USD$ and they are quite high, but since it was a special trip for us, we decided to splurge on the 'couples massage' which was 50 min. and ran $200 USD. But it was well worth it! The women's locker & spa area was incredible!

We peeked at the gym and it also looked really great! All brand new equipment with a TV on each machine.....very nice! (but I wasn't in the mood to exercise!.....I'm on vacation!.....I'll hit the gym again when we get home to work off the beer & margaritas! hehe!)

We also ate at the Le Bistro Restaurant and really liked their outdoor seating area. It overlooks the entire resort from the main building and the food was great too! We had the seafood enchiladas (DELICIOUS!), shrimp cocktails (also very yummy!), then another night we had the roasted chicken with potato salad and my husband had a steak. LOVED IT! And for dessert, they had the BEST CHEESECAKE ever!!! We would stop there on our way back in from town, just to pick up a slice!!!

Then we splurged on a dinner at "Frida!" and it was AWESOME!!! Definitely a dining experience!!! Food was incredible and the service and presentation was out of this world! We're pretty laid back and doesn't take much to impress us, but this was over the top place to dine and blew us away!!! We also ate outdoors on the patio and loved the ocean breeze and the view of the resort and ocean!!! I would say that it's a definite "must do" when staying at PBSB. (note: they don't recommend this restaurant for kids and I can see why....the menu is very expensive and it's a dining "experience" ....not "eat and run" type of place.)

We also ate our breakfasts quite often at the La Nao Restaurant down by the main pool...they have a daily buffet or you can order right off the menu....and their Sunday Champagne Brunch is awesome, but pretty steep....$35USD per person! I think we dropped almost $90USD just for the 2 of us, after ordering sodas and leaving a tip! That's a big ouch just for breakfast! Oh what the heck, you're on vacation, so just charge it to your room! hehe! Plus, they have a nice patio seating area too overlooking the pool and beach!

The only thing that we didn't like about this resort was their "Timeshare" presentation/sales pitch! OMG that was annoying! Upon checking in, we immediately get this voucher for a FREE breakfast (only if you put down $20 deposit) and they ask you to meet them the next morning at 9am. So we show up and right away, "Do you have your MC or Visa?" "HUH?" No we didn't, we only had an American Express card, so we couldn't get the free gifts (discounted Spa treatment). But to get our $20 deposit back, we had to waste an hour and a half walking around with a cheezy salesman, trying to sell us a timeshare. The FREE breakfast (or whatever they call it) was basically a sales presentation over a buffet breakfast in their big "sales" conference room....your salesman will sit down with you during breakfast and keep selling as you eat.
I'm not trying to knock down timeshares, so if you're interested in those, GREAT!!! If I had the time & big money to put down on a timeshare, then this place would definitely be it, but we don't and we weren't interested, but they just kept pushing to the point where we were presented with a CONTRACT at the end of our tour! My husband was mad! So the salesman just up and walked away without even saying goodbye, nothing! That was so rude and annoying! But we did meet a lot of people who owned a timeshare at PBSB and loved it.

Anyways, all in all, this place is definitely a 5 Star Resort! Our hotel junior suite was incredible! More than enough for just the 2 of us....beautiful bathroom too! No need to bring a hair dryer! The maid service was just ok....I think one day they didn't show up at all, but that was fine.

The resort has all the comfort necessities...gift shops, deli, espresso bar, internet computers at the drug store, books, magazines, etc. You can show up with the clothes on your back at this resort and get everything you need to make your stay comfy! Definitely a place to get pampered, but bring your fat wallet or your high limit credit cards, because it's not cheap! But well worth it! Enjoy your stay!

“Nicest Resort in Cabo San Lucas”

We have stayed at a lot of nice resorts, so it takes a lot to really impress us. We will definitely go back! This resort is three or four miles from the marina, markets and night clubs in town. The entrance to the resort begins with a private 2 mile drive winding around a hillside which leads to the Pacific beach. The resort is built on terraced levels on the hillside. Each of the buildings has close access to a pool with a swim-up bar. Golf carts take guests to their rooms, beach, main building. My teenagers enjoyed the beach volleyball. The nice thing about this resort is that it has a sister resort, Pueblo Rose, in town and a shuttle bus that leaves every hour for guests to use its pool, beach or just to visit the town.

We just got back from a one week stay at PB Sunset Beach (7/15-7/22), and I read the prior reviews before writing this one. This is the second time we have stayed at the resort. It is just as awesome as everyone says it is...beautiful secluded beach, high quality accommodations, friendly staff, incredible setting. I agree with everyone's comments...with just a few exceptions. The golf cart service during our stay was average. We were in Building #12 at the end of the line (so to speak), and it often took more than several minutes to get a cart. There are phones to use to request a cart, but one day, I had to call four times and had to wait 25 minutes! We ended up walking to the upper pool. A lady I was waiting with one day said that no one ever showed up one time when she called...and a gentleman staying in our building also was extremely critical of the response time. So it isn't always as easy as some of the other reviews have made it sound. Walking down to a location isn't so bad, but walking up to the main lobby on a hot afternoon can be miserable!

Housekeeping was average also. The ironing board in our unit was broken, and they brought us a new one after a several hour wait. When the ladies showed up to clean late in the day, they often did a very quick and not very careful or thorough job.

We had dinner one evening in the new restaurant, La Frida. It is very expensive, but the food and service are outstanding. On the other hand, Le Bistro is a new restaurant with extremely slow service and below average food. My husband had to ask for the bill three times. We requested ice water, got a glass with ice in it but never the water! The atmosphere is awful...like some diner...harsh lighting. We would never go there again. La Nao has a wonderful breakfast, but the Seafood Buffet on Thursday evening was terrible. Three of us had the sea scallops, and they were rubbery and inedible. The waiter took the cost of one and a half dinners off of the bill entirely, but we shouldn't have paid for anything. The pool food, however, was really very good! We enjoyed our lunches there.

The new Spa is beautiful. But prices are NOT particularly reasonable. I live in Kansas City, and our prices for everything tend to be lower. The Spa prices are at least double what I would be charged here. They also add the tax and a gratuity before you even change your clothes! But the entire Spa is first class, and I enjoyed the facial and massage I had there.

All this being said, we will go back to PB Sunset Beach. We have a timeshare and think the place is lovely. But we were disappointed about the food and about the slow cart service this visit. Hopefully, they are just experiencing growing pains and this will all improve. I would certainly recommend this resort to anyone going to Cabo.
