I traveled to Elbow Cay last April and stayed in a lovely cottage with my husband and baby girl. It is just lovely! The 'downtown' was adorable. The beaches were gorgeous and the history of hopetown is pretty fascinating.

We rented a great cottage from hopetown hideaways and the service was very good. It's just a nice relaxing place with good coffee and cute, not intimidating restaurants and beaches that rival harbour island. i will definitely return.

Just returned hours ago from a trip to Elbow Cay. We stayed at Las Brisas, rented through Hopetown Hideaways. A perfectly lovely house which was impeccably clean and extremely well furnished and equipped with everyone kitchen item we needed. We loved this trip. We rented a boat and explored other islands and beaches including Great Guana, Tilloo, and Lubbers Quarters. Best meal: Hopetown Harbour's Edge. Best experience: Cracker P's where kids played bocce and volleyball beachside while we ate. We went with a group of 23 including 10+ teenagers and fished and beached and snorkeled and swam. Best beach: Tahiti. Must get a golf cart for daily trips to Hopetown to see what Vernon has fixed - amazing key lime pie, fresh herb baguettes, homemade bread. Groceries more plentiful than expected, but pricey. Only disappointment: it was so WINDY that the fishing wasn't good and we actually couldn't make it to some of our planned destinations. We still loved it and have already re-booked for next year. If you like a "safe" adventure surrounded by helpful, friendly locals where your fishermen, beach lovers, and explorers can find something to do - this is the place. Just wish we could slow down the wind and speed up the airplane to get back!

We stayed at the Sea Spray resort which is relatively close to the famous Tahiti beach by golf cart. The resort comprises a series of cottages which are pretty and very well kept. The place is a little uptight it may be due to the manager who is everpresent and sometimes we felt he was always watching us as we used the amenities. A downside is that the pool is right next to the Reef bar hidden just a bit by shrubbery. The cottages are fully equipped with microwaves, dishes, a refrigerator. Everything you will need if you're cooking (bring your own salt). The grocery stores are a short drive away (by golf cart, most popular mode of transportation) . Tahiti beach is amazingly beautiful, not well groomed but still in it's natural stage, not flanked by hotels but really secluded.
The wireless internet be warned is not available in the rooms but you have to go to a hotspot near the restaurant/ office outside and maybe if you're fortunate you will get a connection which actually comes off some of the yachts in the resorts marina.
The resorts restaurant The Boathouse restauant is small and and pretty, fresh tablecloths etc. The food is very good but expensive. We lived off the fried conch in a bag. The Reef bar is very open air and caters to the yachts people as well since it is on the marina's edge, some nights it got crowded and smoky.
Next time we go we may stay at the more relaxed Abaco Inn.
One day we drove to the other end of the island to the Turtle Hill resort and ate lunch at their On Da Beach outdoor deck restaurant, their curried chicken salad is amazing, the very best food I had on that island and the island's food is very good. It's worth the drive there the scenery is beautiful and the place is an adventure to get to.
A word of warning about getting to Elbow key from Marsh Harbor, if you take the public ferry it's a hassle especially if you have kids and luggage, there is a wait , a line, and a scramble to get on board, you line up on a boardwalk . If you can afford it take a private boat and split the cost with a few people especiallly if you're with a group. To us Elbow key was a lovely dream beautiful very restful, however if you stay longer that a week you will get island fever the place is SMALL.

My Husband and I traveled with 2 other couples to Elbow Cay. Just got home on Friday Jan. 18, 2008. We were there for a week. Rented one of the villa houses at Turtle Hill II. The grounds were very well kept. The house we stayed in was a 3 bedroom. Clean clean clean. Spacious bedrooms and living area/kitchen. Amy the grounds manager was excellent. The place came with a golf cart and we rented a 21 foot Boston Whaler from Island Marine (good people.) The house we stayed also had their own beach bar. On Da Beach Bar and Grill. Roger and Mispva (sorry if I mispelled) were our bartenders and the fish and hamburgers were awesome. We were all pleased with our house and about 20 steps to the beach. We didn't have a beach view, but, could see it from the upper deck of our house. We didn't mind walking a few steps to see the ocean and the beautiful sunrises every morning. We would definately go back. The town of Hope Town was so quaint and had friendly appeal everywhere. I am a bathroom freak and all the bathrooms I went to were the cleanest I have been in in the Carribbean. Elbow Cay was the best island we thought between boating from Great Guana and Man O War and Lubber's Quarters. Went to Grabbers at Great Guana and had to check out the famous Nippers. We thought Grabbers was way more better to spend a day at over Nippers. You do have to see what Nippers is about, but, my oppinion I liked Grabbers better. The light house in Hope Town on Elbow Cay was fun to climb the 101 steps to the top to see all over. All in all food was great, house was great and the town of Hope Town a must to see and spend time on Elbow Cay and get another Key Lime Pie from Vernon.

“Leaping lizards house”

Elbow Cay

We just returned from a trip to Elbow cay March 2007. We had a nice time but not exactly what we expected. The Island seemed very East Coast and reminded all of us more of the Carolinas then what you typically think of when you think of the Bahamas. Very SECLUDED there is nothing to do except hang on the beach and vist the small number of shops in town. Our group tried to rent boats to go visit other Islands but we had a hard time finding avalible rental boats that met our needs.

Our group consited of experienced/inexperienced scuba divers. We had planned on doing several dives on the trip. The only dive shop on Elbow Cay is Froggies. The first dive we did was horrible the current was very strong. The experienced divers in the group 300+ dives said it was by far the worst dive they have ever been on. Froggies is horrible, there only focus seemed about money and could care less about your diving enjoyment. Comparble to some dive shops I have been to in mexico. For the other dives we decided to contact shops in Marsh Harbor and they wouldn't even take us out b/c the water was so rough, meanwhile Froggies was calling us saying the diving was fantastic.

We stayed in the Leaping Lizards house. The house was fantastic and our young kids enjoyed swimming in the heated swim pool. We will recommed this house to our family and friends visting the island. This island would be a great choice for families with children 12-17 because you can just let the teen run wild and be reasured that they are safe. For younger kids there is not much for them to do. We had several kids with us 4 months,3,4,4,7, and 12. The 12 year old really loved the golf carts. This was a nice trip but I would recommed it for older families.
