“Worst Resort and staff you can imagine”

Xanadu Beach Resort and Marina

Terrible. Words can't describe how awful this resort is. I wish I would have taken pictures to show what horrible shape it's in. A hurricane hit three years ago, and the place is no where near recovered. The staff is extremely rude and nothing in our room (including the AC) was fixed. Please, don't waste your money as I did on this awful place.

“Worst Hotel Imaginable”

Xanadu Beach Resort and Marina

I stayed at this hotel for spring break. We lost electricty twice and hot water once. Our room was unbearable. The toilet didn't work. The staff was not helpful, mean, and disrespectful. This place should not be open for business. It is also too far away from anything.

We checked in on 2/18 2006 with another couple. They put us on the 4th floor and our freinds on the 9th floor although they were by far not full due to construction. The beach was nice, but the old palm trees that were uprooted due to the last hurrican were on the beach. They had workers all around working on the distruction from the last storm. The tennis courts were tore up a The air condtioning did not work at all in ether room. We had trouble with our key card not wanting to let us in until one night it simply would not work at all, so the security man had to hang fron the 5th floor balcony and jump onto our balcony go thru the sliding doors and let us in. The tranportation is so exspenive you are about 15 min. ride to Lacaya area and it cost $20.00 one way for all four of us to go there, or anywhere by taxi, but the local bus is only a dollar , but the bus stops are not close the Zanadu. The Bazarre area is almost a ghost town like area, everything has moved to the Lacaya area. The grocery store is very exspenve to buy things. Our room was nice other than the air not working. full kitchen and living room area and large bath area. Two elevaters only one working so it took awhile for your floor to be reached. We would go to the Freeport agin, but not stay way out at Zanadu Beach and Marina.

I was on this site looking for another hotel and thought I'd check out how this hotel had faired since our trip 3 years ago.
I am honestly not surprised to read these reviews!! We went to Xanadu in "off-season", September, and it was like no one could give a toss. Hardly any staff, pharmacy always closed. Pool bar never open, food an absolute joke - stale, cold and just awful. We ended up ordering Pizza most nights! Pool clearly not cleaned due to old glasses and cigarette butts every where. Utterly Utterly disappointing.
My sister works for a 5* hotel so I have stayed in the best and experienced what service should be. This was most definately the worst, avoid avoid!

“What a Hell Hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Xanadu Beach Resort and Marina

My wife, son, and myself stayed at the Xanadu from September 27th to October 3rd. I was on business, and I decided that we could make a vacation out of it. We chose the Xanadu because they stated on their website that they had in-house babysitting on the premises at the time. When we arrived at this dump, the first room we were given a room on which the door did not close entirely, the room had no a/c, and it appeared that someone had used the toilet and not flushed it. We were given a second room that had rust coming from the faucett and the water had a very bad odor. Finally, we were upgraded to a 3rd room which was a little better but still had to have some work done as there were no irons in thre room, no remote controls for the tvs, and our balcony had no lounge chairs. Furthermore, the bed was not made, and there was no hot water in the shower.

The next day we complained and one of the customer service managers(we never saw the general manager) took down our complaints and offered us complimentary breakfast and dinner for 3 days and 3 drinks per day. However, when we tried to use this coupon, we were told the coupon for 3 dinners at one time instead of 3 dinners per family which the csr stated in our conversation(which was backed up by a front desk helper). Fortunately, the kitchen manager was a sympathetic soul and allowed us to enjoy our meals free of charge due to the inconvenience brought on by the other staff members.

There were some moments when we enjoyed the beach area. The morning skies were gorgeous but that had nothing to do with the hotel. Nothing that they had scheduled went off as planned. The place was a general mess because of past huricanes. Construction was going on every day. You had to take the expensive taxis to go everywhere. The best day we had was when we spent the day at a rival resort. They picked us up free of charge. Also, we had a nice time at Port Lucaya. Xanadu was near nothing! You could not walk anywhere, and the prices they had at the gift shop were outrageous. For example, we were invited to a party for time share members. We were the only people to show up.

Bottom line; stay away from this place. I don't know exactly what their problem is(maybe new mgt),but if you're going to go the Bahamas, save your money by spending more for a better place. And if you want to be secluded, choose Paradise Cove. It's better and the people are nicer.
